Department Information
Within this setting, the College of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programs to prepare students for work in public and private education, community agencies, and higher education. The Department of Elementary and Special Education is committed to preparing reflective educators who work collaboratively and effectively with diverse students in public schools by using current research to inform their practices. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation accredit the College of Education. The individual hired in this position is expected to contribute to the college's goals of continued excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and service.
Job Summary
Reporting to the department chair, the Assistant Professor of Special Education will have a combination of research, teaching, and service responsibilities. The successful applicant will be expected to teach various special education courses, including those in their area(s) of specialization. The successful applicant must develop and maintain an active research agenda. Service to the profession, community, and university is expected. The position is an academic (10-month) tenure-track appointment.
Required Qualifications
Earned terminal degree (PhD or EdD) in Special Education or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Special Education by August 1, 2025.
Minimum of three years of full-time special education teaching experience in U.S. public school settings teaching students in grades P-12.
Ability and willingness to teach both online and face-to-face courses.
Ability and willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Evidence of strong potential of a line of research that leads to a competitive record of scholarship, research, and external funding.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supervising pre-service teacher candidates and/or practicum students in field placements (online and face-to-face).
Experience teaching face-to-face and online education courses at the university level.
Experience developing online education courses at the university level.
Evidence of research and expertise in effective reading instruction.
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
